Just a heads up for the L2 crowd:
Given the nessecity of using 8th edition for the SoCal Slaughter 4 in August and the scant amount of reliable information about 8th edition, I have come to a couple decisions about the tournament. This will also apply to the NeonCon GT we are running in Vegas at the Tropicanna in November.
First, under the assumption that the 25% character cap is indeed true, I am setting the points for both Fantasy GTs at 2500. This will allow most armies to field a Lord, BSB, and wizard, with room for some gear. I think that people should be able to run with that setup and having a 625 point allotment allows most armies to achieve it.
Second, army lists will not be due until the Wednesday prior to either event, so people have some time to get a handle on how the new rules affect their army and adjust accordingly. For the sake of my sanity, it would be really nice if everyone got their lists to me in AB3, as this has the percentage breakdowns already in it, but I will take plain text or PDF, as well.
Finally, I am going to be compiling a SCGWL FAQ for this new edition to address the inevitable oopsies that GW probably overlooked when designing the new edition. I do not consider myself a final authority on the rules, but I think it is important that the players know how I will rule on things before they put their men on the table and this will accomplish that. Once I have had a chance to analyze the book in detail, I will put a comprehensive SCGWL FAQ on both our website and on my personal Warhammer blog and cross link it everywhere it is needed.

Hey Quentin, Thanks for the
Hey Quentin,
Thanks for the info. Personally I'm still not convinced a lot of the rumors, the 25% characters thingy in particular, are true, but thanks for the info. Really looking fwd to the SoCalSlaughter, and my crab hat! See you guys in a few weeks at QCR... perhaps even on opposite sides of a table this year!

Website?
Q, What gives with your website?
http://socalslaughter.com/ looks way out of date.
Where are we supposed to go to get reliable info? Let me know and I'll add the link to our site too.
Mike Mandzark owns that site
Mike Mandzark owns that site and did it for Garner like two years ago and it has not been updated since. Still trying to get that changed, but Mandzark is about as hard to locate as friggin Waldo. The main site, www.SCGWL.com always has our latest updates and I always post the packets for events in advance. This will be no exception.

So the date and location are what then?
Ok, looking at the main site, it isn't clear to me when the 2010 SoCal Slaughter is going to be held or where.
Clicking the SoCal Slaughter image on the right nav leads to Slaughter in Space 2 info. The SoCal Slaughter isn't listed in the Event Calendar either.
Scrolling way down the page (far below the fold) I found this:
"August 20th-22nd- SoCal Slaugter 4! This event will take place at the Ontario Convention Center with five rounds of tournament play. There will be side events for 40k players, with a team tournament on saturday and a Combat Patrol tournament on sunday. Details and pricing will be posted in the forums once it is finalized."
Is that still the accurate news? (Please post a link or graphic on the main site, preferably somewhere that is immediately in folks face upon page load when finalized.) I'd love to be able to find info on the event (date, venue, registration instructions, registered player list, yadda yadda) but can't... and sadly the site with the event's name in the url looks the most legit (until folks see the 2009 image and text).
I ask as rumors where flying around today on the LD2 boards that it might have been moved back to the old location (which was fine with us as we loved the hotel/afterparty venue).
The front page is accurate
The front page is accurate and it WILL be taking place at the Ontario Convention Center this year, come hell or high water, on the date listed. As for drinking after, we will be at the Double Tree Hotel all night and probably have some board games or something similar, as well. And as I said, I am going to at least try and get Mandzark to delete that site.
Registration info?
Where do we register? Where is the registration list being published?
Thanks,
John
The rules packet is done and 8th edition ready..

To pay, either paypal 63$ to pay@scgwl.com or email our treasurer (Mike Ulibarry mgu@earthlink.net ) to make other arrangements. Lists are due August 18th and must be emailed to me (phazael.scgwl@gmail.com ) in plain text, AB3, or PDF format. Don't worry about the composition errors in army builder, just make sure your percentages are within the limits of 8th.
